There was an explosion at a rally organised by the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Rumu-Woji Playground to woo voters in Port Harcourt ahead of the forthcoming election. It was gathered that about three persons were injured in the incident that occurred in the afternoon. Among the injured, two were said to be women and were all rushed to the hospital for medical attention.Though the actual cause of the explosion could not be ascertained as at press time, it was gathered that there was a disagreement between youths of the Rumuji community that owned the Igboukwu field where the rally was taking place. The youths were said to have stopped the party from holding the rally at the field as they barricaded and shut the entrance of the facility. The State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Darlington Nwauju, confirmed the incident, describing it as a black Wednesday.Nwauju said enemies of democracy were using all sorts of underhand strategies to frustrate opposition political parties in Rivers. He called on the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Security (DSS) and the police to intervene and stamp out politically sponsored violence.
