President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday delivered his last Independence Anniversary speech as Nigeria’s president as countdown continues to 2023 General Election. In his speech, President Buhari who was first elected in 2015, reeled out his government’s achievements while highlighting some of the challenges faced by his administration.The President also pledged to improve the economy, tackle corruption and fight insecurity before he rounds off his tenure.He thanked God for his Grace as well as the commitment and passion displayed by many Nigerians over the years. The event, which was marked with all sorts of activities, including military drills and artistic performances, was graced by many dignitaries including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; former President Goodluck Jonathan; Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.Others were the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan; ministers; the service chiefs and other heads of security and intelligence agencies; members of the National Assembly; and members of the diplomatic corps.
