A socio-political group, Democracy Watch Alliance (DEWA), has condemned in strong terms, the spate of attacks and blackmails against one of the governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Akwa Ibom state, Mr Akan Okon.
According to the group, the attacks come on the heels of the case of multiple forgeries he instituted against Pastor Umo Eno, who was declared the winner of the May 25 governorship primaries in the state.
Worried over a series of attacks directed at the camp of Okon by those opposed to his reaction, the National Coordinator of the group, Prince Sam Akwaowo, described the attacks as unwarranted, given the fact that the action of Akan Okon, is not a fight against any individual, but a struggle to save the face of the ruling party in the state.
Speaking to newsmen in Uyo yesterday, Comrade Akwaowo, warned against unnecessary overheating of the polity and urged those he described as political jobbers, especially from government quarters to stop the campaigns of mudslinging and sheath their swords while waiting for the final determination of the case on November 28, 2022
