The Village Head of Ikot Akpan in Oruk Anam local government area, Chief Benson Udo Ekpo has been arrested by the Police in connection with alleged killing of Cows belonging to herders by people in his community.A youth leader of the community Aniefiok Amos said the herdsmen invaded their community on Tuesday with their cows destroying cassava, yams and other crops before the youths pursued them to another community in the area.Amos said they were surprised that the Police arrested their Village Head Chief Benson Udo Ekpo for an offence he never committed, explaining that other persons have also been arrested in the village in connection with the matter.Another youth of the community identified as Abasi Akpakpan said the village Head was wrongly arrested by the Police and called for the release of the village Head while the police continue a thorough investigation into the matter.The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko MacDon who confirmed the incident said they received reports that some cows were slaughtered in the community as cow meats were found in some homes in the village and some persons have been arrested which he does not know whether the Village Head is one of them.According to the PPRO, they also received a report that one person was missing which prompted the police to swing into action and arrested some persons in the said community. Commissioner of Police Olatayo Durosinmi has ordered an investigation into the matter.
